Youth Leadership Training (YLT) Interns

MA’O’s post high school program for youth ages 17-24 is called the Youth Leadership Training (YLT) internship. Beginning in 2002, it consisted of a 10 month-long program that consisted of working on the farm and leadership development activities. Starting in 2006, the YLT expanded to a 2-year program that included college. Here’s a record of the students that have gone through the YLT program so far…

WIS Visit - September 2008

One of the 8th grade teams from WIS came to visit the college interns at MA’O. Dino, Lynze, Ku’u, Chelsea and Kylie talked with the 8th graders about community food security and showed them the various processes of an organic farm.  Students learned about biodiversity, good and bad bugs, and recycling nutrients back into the earth through mulching and composting. Students also visited the ‘Ai Pohaku garden and helped plant and harvest tapioca and kalo and had one, huge lunch in the garden!

MA’O Ma TOWN 2008

MA’O rocked the house at the Hawai’i State Art Museum on September 20, 2008 for its 4th annual MA’O Ma TOWN event - a benefit dinner to raise funds for our 26 college interns. Long time supporters, DOWNTOWN Restaurant and Kona Brewing Company, created a sumptuous feast of MA’O-licious dishes paired with fine quality wines, bubbly champagne and frothy, ice cold beer. Amidst a starry night sky, killer jams by Kupa ‘Aina, and an endless supply of good food and drinks, friends in the MA’O extended ‘Ohana rallied around a great cause while partying the night away.
