Visit MA‘O Organic Farms

The best way to visit us is through our MA`O G.I.V.E Days (Get Involved Volunteer Environmentally) which run from 9 am-12 noon on the last Saturday of every month.

G.I.V.E. days are both service learning and lots of fun.  We work together, plant new fields, weed, harvest and spend lots of time talking story.  If you want to learn to garden organically, we can give you information, technical assistance, and can even provide some free compost.

At G.I.V.E. days you should dress for working in the fields (long pants, shoes, hat).  Bring a water bottle because it gets hot!  The end of the day is always marked with a potluck, so bring your favorite dish to share and together we’ll harvest super-fresh organic greens for the meal.  Over our food, there is always time to “talk story” with the staff.

In the past, G.I.V.E. days have provided the critical horse-power to get large projects completed quickly.  For example, all our citrus trees were planted by a mix of Wai‘anae High School students and young professionals from local organizations.

Volunteers have helped us to build our office and packing sheds, pull rocks from newly opened fields, weed and mulch rows of veggies, and plant dozens of kalo huli, papaya, and bananas.

To reserve your space, please call our office at 696-5569 or email .  Supervised children are more than welcome.

All other visits are by appointment only.  Currently, we are unable to host visits from new school groups.

Directions to the Farm - 86-210 Puhawai Road, Wai‘anae, HI 96792

Once you enter Wai‘anae town, turn mauka (towards the mountains) onto Lualualei Valley Homestead Road. Take a left at the T onto Puhawai. After the first intersection at Pu‘uhulu, count 7 houses down on your right hand side.  You’ll see a white church ("Community of Christ").  Take a right down the gravelly dirt road.  MA`O Organic Farms is at the end of the road.

“Imagine for a moment if we once again knew, strictly as a matter of course, these few unremarkable things: What it is we're eating. Where it came from. How it found its way to our table. And what, in a true accounting, it really costs.”
